Eight Year Old Boy Bludgeoned A 1 Year Old To Death Because "She Won't Stop Crying",

An eight-year-old boy has been charged with bludgeoning a one-year-old girl in his care to death because she "would not stop crying".

One year old Kelci Lewis was left in the care of the young boy by her mother Katerra Lewis while she went out to a nightclub with a friend.

She has been charged with manslaughter after a six-year-old who witnessed the incident told police what happened. A spokesman for the Birmingham Police Department in Alabama said the police were shocked by the crime. "This is by far one of the saddest cases I have been a part of since I became a police officer. "This type of irresponsibility from a parent is totally unacceptable.

"It is something Kelci's mother now has to live with for the rest of her life," officer Sean Edwards said.

Little Kelci suffered severe head injuries and major damage to her internal organs, police said.

Her killer is thought to be one of the youngest ever murder defendants in the US. The boy is now in the care of social services and will be tried in a family court as there is no minimum age for prosecution in Alabama. The girl's mother has been released on bail.
